I miss seeing people. I miss coffee dates with other vendors in Niagara. I miss chatting with other creatives. I miss how motivated I become and creative I feel after a networking event. I miss weddings. So seeing as I clearly, couldn’t have a coffee with my gal Jessica from Boutique Linen Rentals and ask her these questions in person, I did get her to spill her thoughts on weddings, trends and all things wedding decor.
Jessica is the owner and creative beauty behind Boutique Linen Rentals. She fills her days making sure each of her clients weddings or events are spectacularly designed and beautiful. Her inventory of decor items is never-ending, ensuring everyone, regardless of theme or style, will find what they need from her. Her showroom is one of my favourite places to explore. There are always new items for me to fall in love with and know that my clients will also fall in love with.
She answers the following questions, so sit back and learn all about Boutique Linen Rentals and how Jessica can elevate your wedding decor.
1. How long have you been in business?
I started Boutique Linen Rentals in the summer of 2014 but I have been working in the wedding industry since 2004.
2. What makes your décor business stand out?
Not only do I offer a beautiful collection of decor items to fit various styles but we include delivery, set up and tear down within the Niagara area. I think this is so important because you really don’t want to spend the morning of your wedding at the venue setting up decor, and you don’t want to send your mom or best friend to do it either because you want them to be a part of all the little moments you are experiencing on your wedding day. There are so many memories made on the day of your wedding, even before the ceremony: from getting ready together, your MOH helping you with your dress, your parents seeing you for the first time with your dress on, first look photos and so on – and you don’t want anyone missing out on these special moments just because they had to set up centerpieces at the reception.
3. What are some of your favourite wedding details?
I love all the different food/beverage bar options: from donut walls, to pretzel bars, to champagne walls to mimosa bars and so on! I think these extra touches elevate an event to a new level. The host is really thinking and treating their guests when they incorporate one of these special touches.
4. What can couples do for décor if they are having a micro-wedding due to COVID?
I think couples can include a beautiful arch or arbour for their ceremony. This will add that special touch to their ceremony setting. Years from now, when Covid is a thing of the past and they look at their photos, they won’t be reminded of Covid restrictions – instead they will see beautiful memories of a happy couple being married in a beautiful setting.
5. What gets you excited when talking with clients?
Hearing their love story! Hearing why it has to be on that date or why at that venue. Maybe it was where he proposed, or they had their first date – I love all the little details! I have a couple that is getting married on a baseball diamond since that is where they met & where they still play and am so excited to transform that diamond into a ceremony space.
6. What elevates wedding décor in your opinion?
Decor that is carried out throughout the wedding. Decor that flows from one area of the reception to another (from the welcome table, to the bar, to the guest tables, to the head table and to the cake table). I love one cohesive look.
7. What trends do you think need to be put to rest or are overdone?
Definitely the burlap! There are other ways to bring “rustic” into an event.
8. What décor item do you think most couples forget about? Why?
Probably table numbers. Couples might think that a venue will provide them but table numbers are a great way to make your decor flow together. There are so many options besides numbers printed on a white piece of card stock, lol.
9. What is your favourite Niagara venue to decorate?
That’s a tough one! Niagara is so blessed with so many beautiful venues! If I had to pick just one, I would say Honsberger Estates – I just LOVE draping that arbour! Their whole outdoor ceremony space is beautiful, private and serene. The Balls Falls barn is a close second though as I love the complete look of the edison string lights, barndoor & beam draping, harvest tables with soft romantic chiffon runners and their chiavari chairs….see? It’s a tough choice!
10. What trends do you think are coming up for next year?
The “Eco-friendly wedding” will surge even more as more and more couples are becoming environmentally-conscious and want to support small local businesses. Couples will find ways to source local vendors and supplies and use and repurpose decor that has a longer shelf life (perhaps use a local decor rental company 🙂 ). We will also see more mid-week weddings as most of 2020 brides have had to reschedule to 2021 making prime 2021 dates in high demand.
