There are a lot of questions that come up when considering hiring a band or a DJ for your wedding entertainment. And while there are pros to both: band creates a certain energy and sound and a DJ has often a wider range of songs and genres of music. Often, people are opting for a band during ceremony/cocktail hour and a DJ at night for the party. This gives you the best of both worlds.
If you don’t know where to start, here are a few suggestions.
- Is there a band in your area that you really enjoy? Would they be appropriate for a wedding?
- Ask your venue, officiant, photographer or wedding planner for recommendations. They often have worked with a variety of both bands and DJs and can give you a few suggestions.
- Know what you want to get out of it. If you want a high-energy night full of sweaty guests dancing the night away, then you need to make sure you don’t hire a classical band for the evening. Equally, if you are looking for a jazzy, cool evening or cocktail hour, a DJ might not be the way to go. Know your style and be sure to match the music to that.
- Trust your gut, if the DJ says they can create the style you described but you aren’t convinced, keep researching. The last thing you want is to be disappointed because they can’t deliver what you envisioned.
Hope this helps you get groovy at your wedding!
