There is this new photo trend called the First look and it’s when the bride and groom get to see each other before the ceremony. Oh no! you say.. that’s bad luck. Well let’s look into this old tradition versus this new trend and then see if you’re the type of person to break tradition.

So what is behind the tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony. It all began with arranged marriages, where the bride and groom didn’t see each other at all before the wedding because it was just considered to be bad luck. Another little tid bit of information is that the bride was not even supposed to see herself because it was believed that if she looked into the mirror that she would have left a piece of herself behind in the mirror. You can’t get any more superstitious than that haha.

So why do we still hold on to this tradition, when it clearly sounds a little ‘coo coo’ to me although don’t get me wrong if you are the traditional type of person that’s fine because I too am guilty of following this tradition. But if I were to get married now, I think that I would throw this wacky tradition out the window and definitely do the First Look.

I think that the First Look is better than the old tradition because within all the craziness of the wedding this gives the couple a quiet moment alone (except for the photographer to capture these raw emotions haha) and lets them experience a romantic moment where their true emotions can come through.

Some people may think that you are taking the excitement out of walking down the aisle away but I am not to sure about that because the moment of you seeing each other is your moment, so I don’t feel that anything will be taken away it’s just done at a different time.
I don’t know about you but this sounds like it would be a pretty good moment to remember from your wedding day. So what do you think about this new tradition?

Well that’s my rant for today, happy Friday and have a great weekend.
Thanks for reading,
Alex
